The Book Drop is a surprise monthly book subscription service powered by Bethany Beach Books, an independent bookstore in Bethany Beach, Delaware. We shipped our first mailing in 2015! We understand that sadly not everyone has a local, independent bookstore near them so our mission is to help bring the independent bookstore experience to readers.
All subscriptions automatically renew on the date of purchase. If you do not want your subscription to renew, please login to your Book Drop portal and "Cancel" your next renewal. Please note a cancellation only applies to future renewals and any mailings previously purchased will still ship.
Subscribers will be charged for their first mailing(s) when they sign up. All subscriptions then automatically renew on the same date you started your subscription. If readers purchase a subscription on the 20th of the month, the subscription will always renew on the 20th. Subscribers have the ability to skip, pause, or cancel via their Book Drop account.
We ship book subscriptions between the 15th-21st of each month. Readers will receive tracking via email as soon as we start preparing their mailing.
Our book subscriptions ship the same time every month: between the 15th-21st. Subscribe before the 14th (7:59pm EST) of the month & receive your first book that same month. Subscribe on or after the 14th (8:00pm EST) and your first book will ship the following month. As soon as we start packing your subscription, we send an email with tracking information. All one-time products from our Shop ship within 2-3 business days (or on release date for pre-orders).
Yes, please do! The Book Drop makes for the perfect gift. We even have printable gift notes. We hand write all gift notes & include them in the recipient's first mailing. We also add a gift bow to the first book for an extra special touch.

To ensure all gifts remain a surprise we do not contact the gift recipient. We do include handwritten gift notes in the recipient's first mailing if a gift note is provided at checkout. We also add a gift bow to the first book for an extra special touch.
Yes! We currently ship to readers in Canada and the UK. Please note we do not prepay Duties & Taxes and the recipient is responsible for any Duties & Taxes that may be due upon receiving their mailing. We ship all international mailings via GlobalPost Standard International. If you are a reader in another country not listed above, please contact us at support@thebookdrop.com and we can explore shipping to your country, too!
Please also note that due to the length of time it takes to receive an international package, readers may be charged for their second month before receiving their first. Additionally Book Drop is not responsible for replacing or refunding any lost or missing international mailings.
*APO & FPO addresses get charged USA shipping rates. If you purchase for someone serving with an APO/FPO address & you are serving and have an APO/FPO address, please contact us so we can upgrade your shipping to Priority free of charge as a thank you for serving.*
Shipping is FREE for most of our plans. For one-time purchases, a small shipping fee may apply. Shipping costs will be shown in the checkout process after the shipping address has been entered.
Yes! If you can't decide which subscription you want or if you just want to mix it up a bit, you can switch between subscriptions. Just remember to login to your account before your subscription renews, otherwise your switch may take effect the following subscription cycle. Please also note that you will be charged the difference in prices if there is one.
Yes! You can easily skip a renewal or multiple renewals by logging into your Book Drop account.
You can skip a mailing! If the mailing has already been paid for via your initial purchase or a renewal, you must email support@thebookdrop.com. Subscribers can only skip renewals via their Book Drop portal.
You can easily cancel your subscription via your Book Drop portal. All subscriptions automatically renew on the date of purchase unless cancelled. If you do not want your subscription to renew, please login to your Book Drop portal and "Cancel" your next renewal. Please note a cancellation only applies to future renewals and any mailings previously purchased will still ship.
We can process a refund for invoices/renewals/charges that have occurred within the last 30-days. Any invoices/renewals/charges that occurred more than 30-days ago cannot be refunded. Please note we cannot refund ANY invoices/renewals/charges if they have already shipped.
When you cancel your subscription you are cancelling future renewals. Any pending mailings from previously processed invoices/charges/renewals will still ship since you paid for them.
Of course! Subsribers should login to their Book Drop account to update their subscription. Subscribers can also email support@thebookdrop.com
Yes, please login to your Book Drop account and update your credit card information at any time.
It's possible your subscription was housed on our original subscription platform. We have since upgraded (yay!). You may now start a new subscription on our current website or contact support@thebookdrop.com and we can double check our system.
Sadly, you cannot return it. In the event that you already have the book, we suggest passing the book on to another reader who will love and take care of it, or donating the book to a school, library, nursing home, hospital, or shelter.
If your mailing is not showing any progress yet, please wait 3-5 business days. We typically print all of our monthly labels at once and then pack them. This means some mailings may not show movement for a few days while we are busy packing.
If your mailing has started it's trip to you and then has suddenly stopped, please wait 1-2 business days for any movement. If an update has not been posted by USPS please contact us at support@thebookdrop.com.
For domestic mailings: If your subscription is lost in the mail & marked as such by USPS, we can send you a one-time replacement. If the subscription is returned to us or un-deliverable due to an invalid or incomplete address, we can resend your subscription for a small reshipping fee.
For international mailings: Unfortunately we cannot replace or refund lost or missing international mailings.
In an effort to promote gender fluidity among books we do not ask for any of our readers' their gender identity. We don't want anyone to ever feel like they have to read a specific type of book... or can't read a specific book... because of their gender identity. We are all about breaking gender identity stereotypes, expanding our readers' horizons, and promoting open-mindedness.
Ah, yes, that can get confusing sometimes. Book Drop is a subscription book program powered by the independent bookstore - Bethany Beach Books. You may see Bethany Beach Book's logo because Bethany Beach Books is the company and Book Drop is the program/service.
Each subscription plan is priced accordingly. Some things we take into consideration: the price of the book, the shipping materials, and the time it takes to package up your subscription with all that love.
We have a Brand Ambassador program that allows bloggers to receive a free subscription in return for posting about The Book Drop. Keep an eye on our Ambassadors Page for information on when and how to apply to become an Ambassador.
We work closely with our publisher reps and staff at The Book Drop when deciding our Book Drop titles. At this time we only accept Book Drop title proposals from editors & publisher reps.
All books added on to existing subscriptions will ship with the first box after a renewal.
For example, if you have a month-to-month subscription, your add-on will ship with your next box. Alternatively, if you have a 6-month subscription, your add-on will ship with the first box after your next renewal. This means that if you choose an add-on after your third box, it will be shipped to you in your seventh total box.
